A tough day in Raleigh left the Starz going home with a first round bracket loss in a rematch against the Crusaders Red 14U team, but there were some highlights throughout the day like our second-game double-play in the fourth against Adrenaline 14U.

Bladen County Starz 14u bested Crusaders Red 14U 1-0 on Saturday after taking the lead late in the game. The game was tied at zero in the top of the fourth when Serenity Schmieder doubled, scoring one run.

The pitching was strong on both sides. Bladen County Starz 14u pitchers struck out 11, while Crusaders Red 14U sat down three.

Breelyn Peed earned the win for Bladen County Starz 14u. The starter surrendered one hit and zero runs over five innings, striking out 11 and walking one. Elliott Mitchell (2029) took the loss for Crusaders Red 14U. The hurler went four innings, surrendering one run on six hits, striking out one and walking two.

Schmieder and Payton Eyl each collected two hits for Bladen County Starz 14u. Schmieder went 2-for-2 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in.

Crusaders Red 14U got on the board in the top of the first inning after Teagan Liljestrand (2029) scored after tagging up, Liv Higdon (2028) laid down a sacrifice bunt, and Gabby Novelli (2029) singled to right field, each scoring one run.

Bladen County Starz 14u tied the game in the bottom of the first thanks to a fielder’s choice by Kimberlin Barnes, and a single by Serenity Schmieder.

In the top of the third inning, Crusaders Red 14U went back into the lead after Bladen County Starz 14u committed an error, and Higdon (2028) laid down a sacrifice bunt, each scoring one run.

Elliott Mitchell (2029) earned the win for Crusaders Red 14U. The reliever allowed four hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out two and walking one. Breelyn Peed took the loss for Bladen County Starz 14u. The reliever went four and two-thirds innings, giving up two runs (zero earned) on three hits, striking out five and walking none.
